What's the story?
Luke Shaw was once touted as the next big thing in football, but it now seems like the former Southampton man's contract will be terminated in January. The 22-year-old has had chances hard to come by under Mourinho and questions about his desire and fitness have seen him frozen out from the Portuguese manager's plans.
According to reports in The Sun, Luke Shaw wants a severance pay of £5 million, although United are ready to pay only £2 million.
An internal source revealed: “Shaw will not make it easy for the club to show him the door in January. The club have one figure in mind while he has another for severance pay.
“They are way off of each other. He wants to get his career moving again, but he is not going to do United a favour if they do try to force him to leave.”
The talented 22-year-old star is ready to pack his bags and quit Old Trafford in January if he manages to get a full and final settlement of £5 million by the Premier League giants.

In case you didn't know...
Signed amid much fanfare from Southampton, Shaw was the costliest teenager in world football until the likes of Anthony Martial and Kylian Mbappe went on to shatter that record. Earning a massive £130,000/week at Old Trafford, the defender has struggled with form and fitness and there was even a very public falling out with manager Jose Mourinho.
A number of clubs in the Premier League are reportedly interested in signing the 22-year-old with Newcastle United favourites to secure his signature.
The heart of the matter
Blessed with excellent pace and crossing skills, Shaw definitely has the potential to still salvage his career and become a world-class full-back. In fact, the youngster had made a very bright start to his Manchester United career, but a series of unfortunate injuries curtailed his progress.
At 22, Shaw is at a crossroads in his career and it could prove to be a crucial decision in the young full-back's career.

Author's take
With Mourinho not budging from his stance and questions being asked about Shaw's attitude, it would do the 22-year-old a world of good if he made a fresh start elsewhere. The only stumbling block could be the contract buy out although both parties will be keen to get the deal across the line before the January window closes.
