Atletico Madrid defender Miranda will only seal his dream move to Manchester United if they stump up £24 million for the Brazilian’s services, according to Spanish media outlet AS.
Miranda has been quoted in recent months by AS as saying ”the clause is €30m, that can be negotiated… There’s offers from the Premier League and Spanish League,” while AS reported that the deal was “almost completed” on 22 June.
However, the latest development runs counter to previous information on the transfer, with the Red Devils seemingly a long way off agreeing a fee with the La Liga champions.
Earlier in the month, the Daily Star wrote that Manchester United and Barcelona were battling it out for Miranda’s signature, yet neither club were willing to match the 29-year-old centre-back’s £24 million release clause.
In light of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic having brought an end to their United careers last season, newly instated boss Louis van Gaal is in the market for two central defenders.
Alongside Miranda, Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels has been touted as a potential replacement for the Old Trafford stalwarts.
