What is the story?
According to reports, Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola promised his client of a move to Spain in three years when he signed for Manchester United for a world record fee in the summer of 2016.
In case you didn’t know…
Paul Pogba has been in scintillating form for the club as well as his country since Solskjaer took over the reins at United in December. However, his early form has dwindled a bit in recent weeks as he has been inconsistent lately with suggestions surfacing that his mind has been turned around by a potential move to Real Madrid.
Earlier this season, the Frenchman was linked heavily to Barcelona as his relationship with Jose Mourinho deteriorated to such an extent that their situation was beyond repair. There were rumors that Pogba could make a January move to the La Liga giants but Mourinho’s sacking and Solkjaer’s subsequent appointment meant that no such move actually transpired.
The heart of the matter
In the recent international break, Paul Pogba admitted that it would be a dream to move to Real Madrid
"Like I've always said, Real Madrid is a dream for anyone. It's one of the biggest clubs in the world. There is also [Zinedine] Zidane as a coach and it's a dream for anybody who likes football. For now, I'm at Manchester. We don't know what the future holds. I'm at Manchester and I'm happy."
The M.E.N have reported that Raiola told his agent: "Three years and then Spain"
Moreover, last week, Zinedine Zidane expressed his admiration for his compatriot
"I like him very much,”
“I know him personally and he is a player who contributes a lot. He is a midfielder who knows how to attack and defend and does everything quite well.
“But he does not play in my squad, he's at Manchester United and you have to respect that.
“If one day there is any chance that he wants to leave United, Madrid would be interested as is normal.”
These remarks haven’t pleased the United fans who are now accustomed to Pogba’s frequent flirtations with clubs from Spain and are aware of the notorious nature of his agent.
What’s next?
Solskjaer is unconcerned by Zidane’s remarks and reiterated his ambition of building his team around the Frenchman. For now, all the transfer talk has been dismissed by the Norwegian but do not expect the rumors to die down just yet.
