Former Liverpool player, Jamie Redknapp, is of the opinion that the Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will try to replace his two centre-half Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones with someone more reliable at the back in this transfer window. The pair started for United against West Brom on Saturday and managed to keep a clean sheet.
With Eric Bailly missing and Daley Blind benched by Mourinho, it was the Argentine who paired with the England international at the heart of the defence as United rode to victory with two goals from their in-form striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and picking up three consecutive Premier League wins in the process.
Jamie Redknapp meanwhile thinks that Mourinho will bring in another good centre-half to pair with Bailly for United. Appreciating the effort of Rojo and Jones in the last few matches. He, however, feels that United will do better without this current pair and Mourinho will be on the look out to replace these two. In his Daily Mail column Redknapp said:
“Ibrahimovic's return to form has coincided with the emergence of Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones as United's centre-back pairing.
“I wouldn't have put Rojo and Jones together and I think Jose Mourinho will look to bring in another centre-back.”
The former England international further went on to add as to why Mourinho will do good to try someone else although they have performed reasonably well of late.
“They are both prone to the odd mistake - in Rojo's case he has been reckless with a couple of two-footed challenges recently - but they have been defending brilliantly and helping United win hard games.
“You only need to look at Chelsea to see that when your defence is solid, your forwards are under less pressure and are less likely to panic in front of goal.”
The pair has been pretty impressive in recent times for The Red Devils and featured regularly over the last six matches. Although Rojo’s form was critical, Mourinho’s faith in the youngster is finally rendering good result for United. Rojo, however, picked up a yellow card for his violent conduct during the game.
Jones, on the other hand, had fitness issues and it took quite a long time for Mourinho to convince himself to start with the 24-year-old defender. Since his return Jones has played his heart out for United and Mourinho will be happy to see his decision getting rightly justified and more so with United back to winning ways.
