What's the story?

Reports state that Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has challenged United winger, Anthony Martial to embody the spirit and learn from legendary United winger, Cristiano Ronaldo and become the world's best player as his predecessor has many times.

After putting pen to paper yesterday on a new five-year contract that will keep him tied to the club until 2024, Martial has now been pushed by his boss to fulfill his potential and become a United legend in his own right much like Ronaldo.

In case you didn't know...

Like Martial, Ronaldo joined United as an unknown teenager. After taking several years to truly find his feet, Ronaldo became a bonafide legend and scored 118 goals in 292 appearances for the club between 2003 and 2009, including a goal in the 2008 Champions League Final, which United won.

Martial thus far has netted 46 goals in 118 matches for the Red Devils. He will be hoping to score many more and contribute to United winning as much silverware as they did during Ronaldo's six-year tenure.

Can the Frenchman live up to his manager's challenge to emulate Ronaldo?

The heart of the matter

At 23 years of age, Martial can become one of the world's greatest players. Left out of France's World Cup winning squad last summer after a poor season under previous United boss, Martial has now been revived under Solskjaer, notching up goals and assists for fun.

With 10 goals already this season, Martial has been challenged to double that tally and end the season with 20. His best return in a United shirt was 17 during his debut season under Louis van Gaal, in which he was the club's top scorer.

What's next?

Anthony Martial will be in the United squad that faces Leicester City on Sunday, February 3rd at the King Power Stadium.

Will he be on the scoresheet once again? Solskjaer will be hoping so.
