An intense game ensued at Goodison Park last night which saw Manchester United drawing 1-1 with Everton. The result will be disappointing for both the sides as the gap has now widened between these two and the top four sides. It was a hotly contested game which involved many strong tackles as tempers soared throughout the 90 minutes. In one such incident, Zlatan Ibrahimovic appeared to have kicked Seamus Coleman in the head and may face retrospective action for his tangle with the Toffees full-back.
The striker in focus, Ibrahimovic and Coleman went in for a 50/50 challenge as both of them fell awkwardly after the tackle. It was after the tackle that the question of Ibrahimovic kicking with his heel arose as Everton players appealed against the Swedish forward with Coleman left writhing in pain. Earlier in the game, Ibrahimovic scored an audacious lob from 30 yards to give United the lead before Leighton Baines equalised late in the game.
With the prospect of a ban looming over his head, Ibrahimovic pleaded his innocence in a rather strange interview to MUTV as he said, "It was a physical game. They played hard. I heard one of the commentators say I kicked someone in the head on purpose, but it was a 50-50 duel and he pulled me down. Trust me, if I want to kick someone in the head, I know how to kick someone in the head and make him fall asleep. That is the only thing I have to say."
A ban to Zlatan Ibrahimovic would deal a huge blow to United's top four hopes with Jose Mourinho struggling as his side as won only one out of their last six Premier League games. The Swedish striker who arrived on a free transfer has been their highest scorer with 13 goals as he scored a brilliant goal last night.
Ibrahimovic also talked about his goal as he said, "I got a fantastic ball from Anthony Martial, and I saw the goalkeeper coming out, so I tried to time it right. I scored today but it only gave us one point. I would prefer to win and not to score, that is my way of thinking." The Red Devils are sixth on the table with 21 points whereas Everton lie eighth, one point behind them.
