Several reports over the past weeks have linked Angel Di Maria away from Old Trafford. The most popular destination for the Argentine is slated to be Paris Saint-Germain. The French club have been liberated ever so slightly from the easing of the Financial Fairplay rules and look to capitalise on it by making a move for the Manchester United man,
However, the Red Devils are showing no inclination that they want him to leave the club. As reported by The Telegraph, the former Real Madrid winger will have to ask to leave the club to secure a move.
The 27-year-old had a good spell with United but has since faded away and only making an impact in short spurts. However, he may have another season to redeem himself in the Premier League.
Di Maria is currently away on an extended leave following Argentina’s grueling Copa America campaign. The former Benfica player sustained a hamstring injury in the final against Chile and was taken off early in the game – a horrible reminder to him of a similar campaign in the 2014 World Cup.
However, as fate would have it, he could possibly return in time to play his first match of the new season against PSG on 29 July as part of the International Champions Cup being held in the United States.
Depay’s Debut for Manchester United
Another Manchester United winger Memphis Depay fresh from winning the Dutch Eredivisie with PSV Eindhoven made his debut in the pre-season game against Club America. The youngster is expected to take the EPl by storm next season.
Depay spoke about his debut for the English giants, he said: “It was a crazy feeling to make my debut and a very special one. To think where I came from to where I am now, making my debut for Manchester United. I’m very happy. It was 45 minutes and only pre-season but the focus is on keeping my body in shape. It was important to win the game and we did that.”
The Dutch speedster also spoke about the feeling of playing alongside Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney. He told the Manchester United website: “Wayne coached me a lot through the game and talked to me about which position I should take and when to defend. We have to form a duo and I have the right feeling with him. It’s an honour to play with such a legend like Wazza.”
Depay also highlighted the difference in speed and intensity he felt in training but insisted that he is enjoying it. Speaking some more about his debut, Memphis spoke about his United coach and countryman Louis van Gaal’s reaction to his debut.
He added: “The manager said congratulations on my debut afterwards, he was happy for me. He expects much more from me as well and that’s important for me to work on. I had some moments and some passes but I expect more from myself. I’ll keep focused and keep training hard.”
