Manchester United have been handed an injury blow, with the news that defender Phil Jones has been ruled out for the next two weeks. The central defender – who has also been utilised in midfield this season- has suffered a knee injury and will miss the side’s next three league matches, as well as the FA cup tie with Swansea City.
Jones was absent from the Boxing Day side that defeated Hull City 3-2, with the Old Trafford club’s Twitter account confirming that he has picked up an injury. Jones has been in impressive form in recent weeks, and has been a large part of the mini-revival that United have experienced since going four games without a league win at the beginning of the month.
The former Blackburn man has made 13 appearances in the Premier League for United this season, spread across centre-back, right-back and central midfield. His injury coincides with the returns to fitness of midfield duo Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick. Jones deputised admirably in midfield in the pair’s absence, but has now seen his latest run of form cut short through injury.
21 year old Jones has made 57 appearances for United since his £17 million move from Blackburn Rovers, and has nine England caps.
Jones has won 27 tackles this season, a success rate of 64%.
