Manchester United are the joint most valuable football club along with Real Madrid with an estimated worth of €2.9 billion, according to a study conducted by KPMG (h/t ESPN). They are also the third highest-earning club in the world.
The Red Devils have the second highest wage bill in the Premier League with £220.8 million a year while Manchester City are on top with £225 million. United’s dealings in the summer transfer window and recently renewed contracts increased their wage bill this year.
The 20-time League winners spent £145 million in the last summer transfer window, to bring some high profile players to Old Trafford. The Red Devils signed Villarreal defender Eric Bailly for £30m and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan for £26m. They also signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic from PSG for free but are paying him £230,000 a week, the third highest in the squad.
The Old Trafford outfit re-signed Paul Pogba from Juventus for a world record fee of £89 million. The French midfielder is earning £290,000 a week and is currently the highest paid player at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils’ captain Wayne Rooney is the second highest paid player with a weekly salary of £250,000.
David de Gea comes in at fourth after signing a new contract post the transfer saga that linked him with a move to Real Madrid.
The Red Devils also renewed some of the contracts - the central midfielder Marouane Fellaini’s contract was extended by 12 months while a new deal was also signed by United’s defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah and his salary was increased to £20,000 a week.
Jesse Lingard also signed a new four-year deal and got his weekly wages raised to £100,000.
