Rumour: Manchester United reignite interest in Chelsea target Toni Kroos

Manchester United have made contact Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos, according to AS.

United have long been linked with Kroos, though their interest was thought to have cooled since Louis van Gaal replaced David Moyes at Old Trafford. The club have recently signed Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao and are now reported to want to bring Kroos in, as well.

The German has one year left on his contract with Bayern, and the club have been unable to agree terms on an extension with the 24-year-old. Bayern are said to have told Kroos they require a decision on his future after the World Cup, which has not gone down well with the player, and Spanish newspaper AS now report that United have made contact with Kroos over a move to the Premier League.

Kroos has been at Bayern since 2006, and his major honours with the club include the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, and three Bundesliga titles.

Chelsea have also been linked with Kroos, and the midfielder is admired by Real Madrid and Barcelona as well. He is capable of playing as a number 10 or in a deeper playmaking role, and as well as a superb range of passing, he poses a threat from distance with his long-range efforts.

Kroos has played every minute of Germany’s three World Cup games so far, and he created a goal in their comfortable 4-0 win over Portugal.

Kroos has completed 261 passes at the World Cup, more than any other player.
