It’s a badly kept secret that Real Madrid want David De Gea and are believed to have had an €18m initial bid turned down by the Manchester giants for their two-time player of the season. Rumours since have suggested that the Galacticos have since reached an agreement for the Spanish shot-stopper.
There is, however, a twist in the tale, United have reportedly asked for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos as part of the deal that will see De Gea Madrid-bound. Ramos’ buyout clause amounts to €180m and his current contract runs till 2017. The Red Devils are hoping to bring the Spanish defender in without having to pay the extravagant amount they would have to shell out otherwise.
Since joining Real Madrid 10 years ago from Sevilla, Ramos has made more than 400 appearances for the club. He is an integral part of the current Real Madrid side, becoming a stalwart at the back for them whether paired with Pepe or Varane.
Moreover, he has 128 national team appearances to his name. It spells the kind of experience that Manchester United are certainly lacking at the back.
The details are still fuzzy on this one but the coming few weeks will be massive for the future of both clubs.
