According to reports, Manchester United will give manager Louis van Gaal £150m to spend in the 2015 summer transfer window. The plan is to recruit world class players in each position in the squad to compete for the title and in Europe.

The club have told the manager that there is no limit to how much they can bid for certain players. And they are willing to break the club record fee they paid for Angel Di Maria this summer.

Van Gaal looking to recruit a number of star players

The Red Devils are reportedly keen on signing players in midfield, defence and the wings. If Radamel Falcao is not signed on a permanent basis for £43.5m, they will look to add a striker too.

The current targets include Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben (£40m), Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman (£30m), central defenders Mats Hummels (£35m) from Dortmund and Diego Godin (£25m) from Atletico Madrid and right back Dani Alves (£15m) from Barcelona. Southampton’s full-back Nathaniel Clyne is also a target.

If they successfully sign these players, the total money spent in the two seasons after Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure would go beyond £350m after having spent more than £64m to bring in Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata and almost £150m this summer.

Number of players to be released or sold by Manchester United

To make way for these new signings, a number of players who are out of favour will leave Old Trafford. Some loanees like Nani, Tom Cleverley and Javier Hernandez may leave the club permanently. Youngsters like Nick Powell, Michael Keane and Reece James may also be moved on while the future of second choice goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard is also in doubt.

David De Gea is yet to pen an extension to his deal while 33-year-old Michael Carrick’s contract expires at the end of the season. But there is talk that he will be given an extension by the club.
