Nemanja Vidic has decided to retire from professional football according to an official statement from Manchester United’s official page. The former Serbian International enjoyed a trophy laden eight years at the Red Devils. The 34 year old won 15 trophies which consisted of winning 5 League titles and a Champions League.
Vidic moved from United in the summer of 2014 to Serie A giants Inter Milan. Towards the end of his career he suffered several niggling injuries which slightly hampered a hugely successful career.
Vidic stated the following on the website, “The time has come for me to hang up my boots," he said. "The injuries I have had in the last few years have taken their toll. I would like to thank all the players I have played with, all the managers and staff I have worked with, and say a big 'thank you' to the fans for their support over the years.”
Recently Vidic was released by Inter Milan after an unsuccessful spell at the Nerazzurri. He made only 28 appearances scoring once. He had yet to play for them in the 2015-16 season having had surgery after a hip injury.
The club released an official statement saying, “FC Internazionale announces that it has reached an agreement with Nemanja Vidic for the mutual termination of his contract”. Immediately after his release there were speculations about his career and whether he would move to the MLS but a lack of consistent fitness meant it was difficult for the defender to continue and has decided to hang his boots after a successful career.
