Manchester United are actively chasing Dortmund attacker Marco Reus, in a bid to land him in January and turn their fortunes around this season. Jose Mourinho has made the player one of his priorities in the winter transfer window and is hoping to entice the versatile midfielder into making the switch to Old Trafford.
The Portuguese manager has identified the player as one of the solutions for United’s attacking problems. With the team having one of the highest low conversion rates in the Premier League, there is a serious underlying problem.
The club has made strengthening the defence as their priority in the transfer window, but would love to add quality in other areas as well. The senior management is reportedly behind the deal because Reus is a very marketable player.

The club had previously pursued the player when ex-manager Louis Van Gaal was in charge and had sent Januzaj the other way in the hope that Dortmund would soften their stance with the player. The club has had a history of losing star players, and hence ended up slapping a £60 million price tag on the German player. The valuation was enough to put off the United board, as they looked elsewhere to bolster the squad.
With Mourinho at the helm, they have renewed their interest. Reus is in no way disillusioned with his time at the German club (despite the recurring injuries), but the Portuguese manager is hoping to persuade the player to make the shift to fresher pastures. If not January, a move during the summer is on the cards.
The 27-year old suffered two separate injuries, which saw him miss a total of 179 days from the 23rd of May. This forced the player into making only four appearances so far this season.

His ability can't be questioned, having grabbed 3 goals and 6 assists this season. He was on the bench for Dortmund's Champions League fixture against Real Madrid as he was sick due to a cold, but he came off the bench and scored a late equaliser.
"I was ill for the past two, three days. I would have loved to start here, but the risk was too high. Thus we decided that I'd come from the bench. I am still not at 100 percent," said Reus
His goal meant that Dortmund set a new Champions League record of scoring 21 goals during the group stage.
