According to the latest reports, Manchester United have offered £35m for the services of Real Madrid vice-captain Sergio Ramos. Earlier reports had suggested that Ramos would be included in a swap deal with Real Madrid target David de Gea.
The opening bid is much lower than Real Madrid’s valuation of the Spanish defender, who rate him at £46m. He still has 2 years remaining in his contract, with a buyout clause of €180m (£128m).
The 29-year-old is reportedly unhappy with Real Madrid, who have not offered him a contract extension so far and is rumored to leave the club. Taking advantage of the situation, the Red Devils have started the bidding process, but will have to increase their initial offer to tempt Real Madrid’s hand.
Madrid sports daily AS claimed the Spain international met with Real chief executive Jose Angel Sanchez at the club's Valdebebas training base on Wednesday and did not guarantee the club of his stay.
Pedro Riesco, who works with Rene Ramos, Sergio Ramos’ brother and agent, was quoted as saying earlier, “With everything that has happened, it will be very difficult for Sergio Ramos to stay at Madrid.”
Ramos was purchased by Real Madrid for €?27 million from Sevilla in the summer of 2005 during Florentina Perez’s first stint at Real Madrid.
