Manchester United’s financial might has already been established for the time-being, given their recent revelation of their financial accounts where they ended up posting a record profit of around £68m. Having become the first British club with revenue of more than half a billion a year, they are now willing looking to invest in Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho.
William Carvalho was one of the impressive players for Portugal in the Euros and his languid passing and positioning as well as intelligent use of pace will surely complement the Manchester United midfield that already comprises of Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitirayan, Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini, Morgan Schneiderlin and Michael Carrick.
Back in the summer of 2014, William Carvalho was one of the targets for former coach, Louis Van Gaal and there were reports of talks between the two clubs. But ultimately, the interest in the player fizzled out as Van Gaal chose to focus on other targets, which resulted in Carvalho’s then team-mate Marcos Rojo, joining Manchester United.

The 24-year-old has been a subject of interest for several seasons for top clubs but as of now none of them have taken the plunge. As per Bleacher Report’s claim, a sum of £27million would be enough for the player to swap the green and white jersey for the Red of Manchester.
Over the years Michael Carrick has generally been the one who keeps the game ticking in the Manchester mid-field, but with age and injuries Carrick’s mobility has been affected, thus leading Mourinho to look elsewhere. Bastian Schweinsteiger has already been left out of Mourinho’s plans, and one gets the feeling Mourinho still has to get the best out of Schneiderlin.
The Frenchman who was superb for Southampton hasn’t been able to reach the heights he hit during his time with the Saints. Carvalho, as a reason has turned up as a viable alternative given his passing ability which has an accuracy rate of around 90 percent.
Mourinho is aware that Manchester United will come up against teams who will set up to defend with the onus lying on United to break down the defence. A player of Carvalho’s ability will ensure the midfield retains possession while the other attackers make their runs.
Carvalho who recently signed a new contract with Sporting Lisbon this February has made 27 appearances for his national side and was a part of the victorious side that won the European Championships this summer in France.
