#1 Romelu Lukaku makes transfer request
We end today's segment with news of Romelu Lukaku's imminent departure from Old Trafford. The Belgian is expected to leave United this summer, after falling down the pecking order since Solskjaer's arrival. He has failed to secure a first-team place under the Norwegian's fast-paced tactics and Solskjaer does not have Lukaku in his plans for next season.
Since then, speculations have been ripe regarding the Belgian's next destination and although Inter Milan have been very keen, they have been reluctant to meet United's evaluation of Lukaku. The Red Devils reportedly want at least £80m for the player who they signed from Everton 2 years ago in a deal worth £75m. Inter have been pressing for a player plus cash deal, but United have not been holding out for a cash-only deal.
Now, things have become interesting, as per the Mirror, who report that the Belgian has demanded that his future be solved before the club's pre-season tour next month. However, Lukaku will not force a move away from the club, out of respect for Manchester United and the fans.
Lukaku is said to be keen to work under Conte, who wanted to bring him to Chelsea in 2017, but had to opt for Morata instead. The Italian's appointment at Inter Milan has played a huge part in the Belgian's decision to move to the Serie A side. In a recent interview, Lukaku himself said so:
It is good that Conte went to Inter, for me he is the best coach in the world
As for my future, I have already made a decision that I still cannot communicate publicly out of respect for Manchester United, with whom I have a contract.
Lukaku has 96 appearances for Manchester United since joining them in 2017 and has scored 42 goals during that time.
