It is official now. Manchester United have bought their first player this season in the form of shot stopper David de Gea from Atletico Madrid. De Gea has been bought after months of rumors surrounding many transfer targets for United as a replacement for the retiring Edwin Van der Sar. De Gea, just 20 confirmed as United’s first buy of the summer for a fee of £17m.
De Gea, a product of the the Atletico Madrid’s youth system had been linked to various clubs, but has finally decided to go to Manchester to build his career. He has been bought as a replacement Edwin Van der Sar, who will be retiring at the end of the season. He is set to join the newly crowned English Champions on 1st July, according to reports. The news comes barely 24 hours after fellow fan-favourite Sergio Agüero announced via his official website that he was also looking to leave the club, thus spurring a mini exodus from the club.
De Gea, who has been in tremendous form all season was on the transfer radar for big clubs, will finally move to Manchester along with his family and girlfriend. De Gea’s best moment probably came in the UEFA Super Cup, when Athletico madrid defeated Inter Milan 2-0 thanks to a brilliant penalty save by De Gea of in form striker Diego Milito.
Manchester United have now officially stepped into the transfer market, which will probably be a very important one for The Red Devils, as they need another couple of midfielders. If rumors are to believed, on the club’s radar are Inter’s Wesley Sneijder, Tangerine Charlie Adam, the likes of Luka Modric and Samir Nasri as long term replacements for the aging duo of Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes.
