There were reports that Jose Mourinho had blocked the deal to bring in Cristiano Ronaldo to the Old Trafford as the Portuguese eventually joined Juventus in Italy.

However, the former Inter manager confirmed that bringing his compatriot was never an option as the opportunity wasn’t there on the table. He then praised Juventus for building a team capable of winning the Champions League.

"Cristiano was never on my table to say 'yes' or 'no' to Cristiano to come to us. It was never on the table,” he said.

"Fantastic players - Cristiano, (Emre) Can and (Leonardo) Bonucci. Absolutely top. But they are going to have two very difficult matches against us.”
