Manchester United’s hopes of signing Monaco right-back Fabinho have taken a massive boost after the 22-year old’s wife dropped a huge hint regarding the Brazilians' future by following the Red Devils on Instagram. Fabinho has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer with Jose Mourinho keen on signing a specialist right back.
Antonio Valencia has had a relatively bright start to the Premier League season but the Portuguese is reportedly interested in a player who could provide adequate competition to the Ecuadorian.
The 22-year-old has already spent time with Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid and is now poised to become United's fifth signing of the summer. United have spent close to £150m with the signings of Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly but the Portuguese coach is intent on bringing in at least one more new face before the window closes.
Fabinho's wife Rebecas Tavares has hinted that the Brazilian right back could be on his way to Old Trafford after following Manchester United on her Instagram page.
Fabinho has performed at a consistently high level for Monaco ever since his loan deal in 2013. With over 100 appearances for the French club, the Brazilian brings with him a wealth of experience for someone so young. He has also represented Brazil on 4 occasions. Monaco though are keen on retaining the player after he scored a 90th-minute winner in their Champions League qualifying win over Villarreal on Tuesday night.
Fabinho had been linked to United last season as well but a move failed to materialise with Louis Van Gaal not keen on the full back. Interestingly enough, Fabinho is represented by Jorge Mendes who was responsible for Mourinho’s appointment as head coach of United.
Mendes has also been responsible for a number of players moving to United. He played a key role in Ronaldo, Anderson, Nani, Bebe, Falcao and Di Maria’s switches to the Theatre of Dreams. Renato Sanches, another Mendes client was also heavily linked with United and would probably have joined the football club had Mourinho been appointed sooner.
Mourinho has also shown interest in Juventus’ Leonardo Bonucci and Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane but after hearing of their unavailability has turned his attention to Fabinho instead.
