Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly trying to swoop in for Porto midfielder Hector Herrera, who joined the Primeira Liga side Porto in a €8 million deal from Pachuca in 2013.
Herrera, who has picked up 46 caps for the Mexican national side, has become one of the most consistent top performers.
However, a drop in form has seen Porto move to second in the division behind Benfica and has consequently led to Herrera being stripped off as the captain in a bid to release pressure.

His signing would also be able to fill in the void in midfield, with Manchester United veteran midfielder Michael Carrick set to retire at the end of the season.
Portuguese newspapers A Bola and Record both believe that Mourinho is ready to raid his former club to seize the 26-year-old to refresh his current Manchester United midfield. The Porto midfielder has also been earmarked by last season Serie A runners-up side Napoli and the English club’s inability to offer European football might just see the Mexican midfielder move to Italy.
Napoli will play in the Champions League after finishing runners-up to Juventus last season, while the Devils finished eighth in the Premier League.

Herrera has been demanding wages north of €30 million in the past two transfer windows, which Napoli rejected to pay. However, it looks like the Mexican is looking for a move to Napoli as he believes it would be an appropriate next step for his career.

The Red Devils next face Klopp’s Liverpool team on Monday. The upcoming fixture is going to be crucial for United after losing to bitter rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford last month. United have not lost against Liverpool since March 2014.
Pogba scoring in the international break for France will give Mourinho and the Frenchman some much-needed confidence to take to the game against their bitter rivals.
October looks like a tough month for the Red Devils with four big games in 10 days against Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Fenerbahce.
