Bundesliga club Wolfsburg are all set to hand a lifeline to Manchester United outcast Memphis Depay. Depay, who has failed to make his mark at Old Trafford since joining in 2015 and could move in the next transfer window.
The 22-year-old, who joined the Red Devils from PSV Eindhoven for a hefty fee of £25 million before the start of the previous season, was dubbed as the next star of world football. Depay was handed the famous number 7 jersey at United but has failed to live up to expectations.

A series of underwhelming performances saw him score only two goals in the Premier League last season. Under Louis Van Gaal, he made 45 appearances in all competitions last season. However, Jose Mourinho was not impressed by the winger’s performances and Depay has featured in only 12 minutes of Premier League action so far this season.
Mourinho’s squad overhaul at United, Marcus Rashford’s meteoric rise and Anthony Martial’s form along with Depay’s poor performances all added up to see the Dutch International being restricted to the bench. Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and new signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been preferred ahead of the former PSV attacker.
According to Metro Nieuws, Memphis Depay said that he is still the same person and knew what he wanted to do. He also added that United was his dream and he wants to play at Old Trafford only. He said, “I am the same person and I know what I want. A supporting role is not for me. I’m a player who is happy with the fact that he is under contract with Manchester United. This is my dream club, but I want to play.”

A replacement for Julian Draxler?
German news outlet Bild reported that VFL Wolfsburg is interested in signing the wide-man in the January transfer window. With reports suggesting that German star Julian Draxler could move out of the Volkswagen Arena to one of the European giants, the Bundesliga side is looking to find a suitable replacement for their marquee player.
Depay could move to the Germany in the winter in a bid to rediscover his form after a disappointing stint in England, with Wolfsburg set to hand the Dutchman a way out of his nightmare. Fans around the world hope that the skilful winger will replicate the form he showed in Holland sooner rather than later.
