Manchester United are ready to make a £42 million bid for Real Madrid’s defender Sergio Ramos despite being snubbed by the Spanish defender couple of seasons ago. Ramos was heavily linked with United while the club was managed by Louis van Gaal but the defender chose to stay with Los Blancos and ended up being their new captain.
According to Italian journal Calciomercato, United feel they can tempt Real in selling their key man with an offer worth £42 million. Jose Mourinho is already feeling the heat at Old Trafford after losing three back to back matches in the Premier League and Europa League.
This inconsistent start to the season has led Mourinho to once again open the cheque book with Ramos being his top priority during the January transfer window. United signed Eric Bailly for £30 million but United’s defence is far from being assured at this moment.

The current United manager sees Ramos as the ideal partner for Bailly which can bring United’s season on track and perhaps push the Red Devils to a title march later on in the season.
Ramos to United doesn’t make sense
One has to wonder what Calciomercato were thinking before putting such a rumour online as Sergio Ramos would not want to quit Real Madrid in favour of the current Manchester United side, who are struggling in the Premier League and are not in Champions League football either.
Add to that Ramos and Mourinho were far from being on the same page while the Special One’s tenure at Bernabeu. The pair clashed at Madrid over Mourinho's treatment of then Real goalkeeper and legend Iker Casillas. The row eventually saw Mourinho leave for Chelsea back in 2013.
At present, Ramos does not have any reason what so ever to quit Real in favor of a move to Old Trafford and given Los Blancos’ impending transfer ban, Ramos will most likely see out his career with the Spanish side.
How will Mourinho rectify the situation at United?
Jose Mourinho needs to call on his present players to sort out the defensive frailties and start winning matches. He needs to first sort out a right formation and then use the likes fo Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial in their favoured position.
Wayne Rooney and other non-performers need to be axed from the starting XI if Mourinho wants to cement his legacy as a successful Manchester United manager. The next league game for the Red Devils is against Leicester City.
