As the January transfer window approaches, a lot of transfer rumours are flying around. There are speculations of at least one new addition to the Manchester United squad and a host of exits in January.
Reports have suggested that Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez could move to the 20-time Premier League champions while Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay could be on their way out.
Talismanic striker Aubameyang is in scintillating form and has amassed 18 goals in 18 appearances so far in the season. His refusal to commit his future to Dortmund has fuelled rumours that he could be on his way out.
According to reports in Independent, Jose Mourinho is looking to bolster his attacking line-up. United have failed to be ruthless in front of goal despite the addition of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the summer and Aubameyang could be the final piece of the jigsaw.
On the other hand, captain, Wayne Rooney could be on his way out along with Memphis Depay, Anthony Martial and Ashley Young. Various reports have suggested that Mourinho is plotting a massive squad overhaul in the near future.
While rumours of Martial’s departure has been doing the rounds in the last couple of weeks, the Sun has reported that Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are interested in signing the young French star. United can expect a fee in excess of £60m if any deal ultimately transpires.
Sun also added that Real Madrid could use 2014 World Cup star James Rodriguez as a makeshift to make the deal happen. Martial, who scored 17 goals in his debut season in England, has struggled for form under Mourinho. Rodriguez has also fallen down the pecking order at Madrid under Zinedine Zidane and a transfer seems on the cards.
One of the most outlandish rumours doing the rounds is Rooney making a return to Goodison Park. The Daily Express have claimed that Ronald Koeman’s Everton are preparing a sensational bid to land Rooney in January. The Toffees have also been linked with a move for Depay as the report added that Koeman is a big admirer of the pair.
It is understood that Mourinho is unwilling to sell of Rooney, who has turned the tables at Old Trafford in the last couple of weeks, a loan move for Depay is highly likely.
Ashley Young, who has barely featured this season, is also open to a move away from Manchester United, claimed ESPN. According to reports, Everton, West Brom, Watford and Swansea all interested in his services.
