Teenage sensation, Breel Embolo has been linked with many clubs from the English Premier League and the Bundesliga including Manchester United, Liverpool, Schalke and RP Leipzig. However, it looks like the Manchester United is the front runner to sign this prodigy. Despite his links to Manchester United, Embolo has openly expressed his affection for Man Utd’s arch rivals, Liverpool.
In a recent interview to the Schweizer Illustrierte regarding his future, Embolo revealed: “That’s not something I’ve thought about. My favorite song perhaps: “You’ll Never Walk Alone”. He further added that he would like the song to be played at his funeral. These are clear indications where the teenagers heart lies.
Considering a deal with Manchester united seems closer at this point in time, this interview wouldn’t go down well with the United faithful because of the fierce rivalry with their Merseyside counterparts. Embolo might want to choose his words more carefully in media the next time around in order a major backlash
Embolo is one of the most exciting and highly rated young players in world football at the moment. Just at the age of 19, Embolo has already racked up over 30 goals in 86 appearances for his club FC Basel and his exploits at the club level at this tender age has earned him 9 international caps for Switzerland.
Born in Yaoundé, Cameroon Embolo moved to Basel with his mother at the age of 6. Embolo started playing youth football for Nordstern and Old Boys which saw him make a move to FC Basel at the age of 13. After helping his new club win back-to-back Under-16 titles, he was quickly moved through the ranks to represent FC Basel’s senior side.
In March 2014 within a span of 4 days, Embolo went on to make his first professional appearance in both the Europa League and Swiss Super League . He managed to score on his league debut within 5 minutes after coming on. Since then there has been no looking back for this youngster. In the next two seasons, Embolo featured heavily for the Swiss champions and scoring at an amazing rate.
With his club career sorted, Embolo had the decision to make regarding International future. He was eligible to play for both Switzerland and Cameroon. Though Cameroon tried their best to convince the striker to dawn their Jersey, Embolo decided to fulfill his mother’s wishes and decided to play for Switzerland.
