#2 Arsenal 1-3 Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on the 25th of January, 2019 (FA Cup)
The fourth-round tie of the 2018-19 FA Cup saw Arsenal battling Manchester United at the Emirates.
Though the Gunners managed to dominate possession, they failed to carve out too many clear-cut chances, meaning that they committed more players forward in search of those opportunities.
Subsequently, they left the back door open and the Red Devils barged through it on 3 occasions with Martial, Lingard and former Arsenal forward, Alexis Sanchez scoring.
Though Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang briefly brought Arsenal back into the game, it merely acted as a consolation as the visitors qualified for the 5th round of the competition.
#1 Arsenal 2-0 Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on the 10th of March, 2019 (Premier League)
At the start of 2019, Manchester United were undergoing a scintillating spell under the stewardship of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. After travelling to Paris with a two-goal deficit, the Red Devils managed to turn the tables on Paris Saint-Germain, meaning that they pulled off an improbable upset in the Champions League Round of 16.
On the back of that magnificent result, United made the trip to the Emirates as they looked to continue their rich vein of form and in the process and earmark themselves as genuine top four contenders.
However, after the high of mid-week, the Red Devils were brought crashing down to earth by Arsenal, courtesy of a 2-0 defeat.
Though the visitors had their chances to stamp their authority on the game, they lacked a cutting edge in the offensive third, thereby allowing the Gunners to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and tilt it their way.
Aubameyang and Granit Xhaka popped up with the goals for the hosts with the Swiss’ goal again raising questions about De Gea’s wretched form.
On that day, Arsenal exposed a few frailties that United possessed and those weaknesses haven’t shown any signs of going away, even this term.
And, though it might sound a little far-fetched, that evening at the Emirates burst the Red Devils’ bubble emphatically.
Consequently, they’ve traversed on a downward spiral that has just become steeper with each passing game.
