Emirates FA Cup finalists Manchester United are reportedly keeping a close eye on Arsenal's English starlet Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The 22-year-old has been out injured for a chunk of their current season and is reportedly on Arsene Wenger's list of players who could depart the club in the summer.
The Frenchman is adamant to clear a bunch of underperforming players this season after bottling the title challenge once again and is reportedly ready to let Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain leave for a decent sum for him to free up some first-team spots to bring in the likes of Alvaro Morata, N'Golo Kante and Granit Xhaka.
The Ox – as he's lovingly called – hasn't been able to live up to his initial promise when he switched St Mary's with the Emirates. Having joined the Gunners in 2011, the Ox hasn't reached double-digit goal figures even once having scored only 2 goals this season – 1 in the Premier League and the winner against Chelsea in the Community Shield before the season even began.
Manchester United are on the lookout to improve their team and reinstate a British core for the Louis van Gaal – or their other future manager choice. While they have a bunch of their starlets coming through from the academy, the Ox is seen as someone who can get straight into the first team and hit the ground running.
With Wayne Rooney coming towards the fag end of his career, the investment into more British players is seen as the way forward for the club with former and legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson adopting – and succeeding with – the same formula.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are ready to clear out a chunk of their first team with the likes of Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini, Mathieu Debuchy, Olivier Giroud, Tomas Rosicky, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all facing possible exits.
