Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that his Manchester United team were fortunate to take all three points against longtime adversaries Liverpool at Anfield Road on Sunday. Manchester United came from behind to win the derby encounter with Liverpool by 2–1 courtesy of goals from Rafaeal da Silva and Robin van Persie.
The victory was Manchester United´s first triumph against Liverpool at Anfield Road since December 2007. After overcoming Brendan Rodgers´s side, Manchester United moved within a point of leaders Chelsea in the Premier League title race.
Sir Alex Ferguson:
“We were very poor. Liverpool dominated the first half and we were lucky. In the second half we had better statistics in terms of possession but we were playing against ten men so that was disappointing. It’s been the same the last four years when we’ve come here, so we’re pleased with the result but not the performance. I expect better of them.”
