South Americans have some of the best talents in world football. Lionel Messi and Radamel Falcao can vouch for that. Another South American waiting to make his mark on the world is a young Chilean who goes by the name Angelo Henriquez. The striker was spotted by Manchester United scouts way back in 2009 while playing for Universidad de Chile and was finally acquired for €4 million in 2012, a price which will surely be a bargain for Manchester United in the future. The young striker always had an appetite for goals and managed to hit 11 goals in just 17 appearances for his former club. Manchester United have a natural finisher in Henriquez, a trait which Danny Welbeck still lacks. Former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has high hopes for the forward, who could replace the aging Robin Van Persie in the future. Henriquez scored on his debut for Manchester United’s under-21 side and was an integral part of the team until he was loaned out to Wigan Athletic in the January transfer window.
Sir Alex Ferguson made the right call by letting Henriquez go out on loan to Wigan, who have had success with Manchester United youngster like Tom Cleverley and more recently Nick Powell, managed by the talented Roberto Martinez. Henriquez was thoroughly impressive at Wigan scoring 1 goal in 4 appearances with the Lactics and showed everybody that he was ready to play in the Premier League. The Chilean tasted success at Wigan when they won the FA Cup against Manchester City but was unfortunately not used in the final. Henriquez returned to Manchester United in the summer after a fruitful season with Wigan.
The teenager was a part of United pre-season tour under new manager David Moyes and managed to salvaged a valuable darw against Swedish club AIK. Henriquez was then loaned to Spanish club Real Zaragoza, where he is having his most successful season since joining the Red Devils. The striker scored an impressive hat-trick for the Spanish side and has hit 5 goals in just 10 games for the club. David Moyes is extremely impressed with his young striker and says that he will certainly be a part of the first team in the future. With a striker like Henriquez in the team, Manchester United do not need to dip into the transfer market for a new frontman.
Henriquez has been a hit for his country too and has notched up 2 goals in 3 games for the senior side. The striker was the top scorer for the Under-20’s scoring 21 goals in 17 appearances. The 19-year-old is sure to out shine Barcelona forward and fellow country man Alexis Sanchez in the future. Henriquez is just scratching the surface and will only become more prolific with time. Manchester United and Henriquez are a perfect match.
