Memphis Depay has hit out on media reports which suggested that his lifestyle outside the pitch has dampened his form at Manchester United. He has
The 21-year-old joined the Red Devils in the summer after a stellar season with PSV in the Eredivisie. However, he has not been able to light up Old Trafford so far this season.
Depay has not enjoyed the best of starts to his Premier league career after having scored only twice in 13 appearances for United this season. The stories suggesting that his love for a night out has harmed his form has only added fuel to the fire.
the Dutch forward’s lack of form has been a huge blow to Louis van Gaal’s side and their title aspirations, as he was brought into the club as one of their best offensive options. An apparent lack of conviction in front of goal and failure to link up with teammates has let him down many times this season. The transfer amount paid for the 21-year-old is one of the biggest gripes against the manager and the club.
The Dutchman admitted that he is not what the media portrayed him to be, and said that he has distanced himself from that particular reputation after coming to England. Depay told, Algemeen Dagblad, a Dutch daily newspaper, “The funny thing is that since I came to England I've only been out one time, One time!.”
"But recently I read that Ryan Giggs had approached me about my reputation as a party boy and stuff. Total nonsense! Completely made up!"
Depay on his ‘unique’ fashion sense that has grabbed attention
Memphis was also on the receiving end of criticism regarding his fashion sense, with pictures showing that he has a rather unique and different fashion sense.
"Often I think: just let me do this," the Netherlands international added. "Let me wear the clothes I want to wear.”
"Why is everyone making such a big deal out of that? What is this all about? Just let me be. I'm just a 21-year-old boy. Why should I change? Some people collect postage stamps; I like fashion and discovering new things.”
“I feel good doing that. If I would put on what you want me to put on, I wouldn't be myself anymore," said the Dutchman.
