With BIG new signings in the summer, Sir Alex Ferguson has already set his eyes on the Premier League trophy. The arrival of world class players like Shinji Kagawa and Robin Van Persie to Old Trafford has sent an alarming message to the rivals and other tough competitors.
Chelsea, strengthening their squad with the surprise signings of extremely talented Eden Hazard and Marco Marin, now look to dominate the Premier League after conquering FA cup and the infamous Champions League. The most anticipated match over the last two years have happened to be the Manchester Derby. With Manchester City edging past United on goal difference to win the premier league, it will look to defend their title with their already strong squad. Arsenal, as always, will somehow finish inside the top four.
The Premier League has stepped up the level of challenge and competition with display of excellent football over the years. And the teams have strived and failed. Only Champions survive the fall. Manchester United, the most glorious club in the world, have been champions to reckon with over decdes.
With no trophies last year, group stage exit from Champions League, early exit from Europa, FA and failing to defend Carling Cup have not eased the pain of losing to Barcelona in Champions League final in 2011. Sometimes teams just have a bad run even if they are playing the best quality football. Luck seems to have deserted the Red Devils.
The begining of a new season refreshes everything and gives you a lot of previlages. The two major additions have certainly strengthened the squad. With Kagawa – Rooney partnership already proving succesful in the friendlies, inclusion of RVP, who was the top scorer in the league last season have enriched the United attacking options. With so many options in the cards, what lies unanswered, What’s on Sir Alex’s mind?
The question will only be answered on Monday, 20th August, when United start their new Premier League campaign against Everton at Goodison Park. A change in formation is definately in process. With Robin Van Persie up front alongside Wayne Rooney, Shinji Kagawa will have to make himself comfortable as a Centre attacking midfielder. Chicharito and Welbeck will make appearences from the bench.
Ashley Young and Nani will command the wings with Paul Scholes or Carrick holding the middle firm. Again, multiple options in the form of Tom Cleverly, Ryan Giggs, Anderson, Fletcher. Combination of the fittest will take charge.
The main back four will resume usual responsibilities. With the return of long standing captain Vidic has certainly cemented the centre backs. Phil Jones and Smalling will take charge of the smallest of opportunities. Highly talented new no. 7, Antonio valencia, will not only have to keep the opponents at bay in the right flank but also push himself forward to provide deep attcking options. With rumoured woes in the left back position, Patrice Evra is the favorite to guard his role in the main team unless United goes for another buy.
With so much depth in the squad, Manchester United certainly look formidable and are one of the top contenders to win the title. They have done it many times in the past and they can do it again. The Red Devils are back. United is certainly a team to watch out for.
