With a win over Liverpool, Manchester United and David Moyes will look to carry the momentum into the Premier League as they host West Bromwich Albion this Saturday.
The midweek clash with Liverpool ended in a 1-0 win and a place in the 4th round of the Capital One Cup thanks to a goal from Javier Hernandez. Certainly there is no better way to bounce back than a win over Liverpool after an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Manchester City for the Red Devils.
Wayne Rooney has been the major talking point in recent times as he has continued to impress in the last couple of matches and the striker will be hoping that Robin van Persie can return from his groin injury as soon as possible to partner him up front.
As far as team news is concerned, van Persie who was sidelined for the last two games, might return this week and so will a number of first team players who were rested for the Liverpool clash.
Jonny Evans, who started Wednesday’s game coming back from an ankle injury, has revealed his delight at getting back into action. Evans was sidelined with an ankle injury last month and this was his first start of the season. The defender talking to the club’s official website said:
“That was my first start of the season and it was a tough game to come into because if you look at their forward line they’ve got a lot of pace and trickery,” the defender told MUTV.
“You know when you’re playing against Sturridge and Suarez you’re never going to have an easy evening, but as a team we defended every set-piece well and that’s what you need in games like this.”
The likes of Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Marouane Fellaini, Patrice Evra, Michael Carrick and Antonio Valencia, who were rested, should find themselves back in the starting berth while it is upto Moyes to decide whether Shinji Kagawa’s midweek exploits were enough to merit him a starting spot against West Brom.
Here is a possible XI that Moyes might deploy this weekend:
De Gea; Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand, Rafael; Fellaini, Carrick; Nani, Rooney, Valencia; Hernandez
Prediction: Manchester United 2-0 West Brom
