Manchester United’s Youthful Veteran

Aged twenty-eight, Darren Fletcher was the oldest player in the Manchester United squad for their clash with Super League side Galatasary in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday. The Scotland international has made almost 200 Premier League appearances for Manchester United since he made his first team debut back in March 2003.

Born and bred in Edinburgh, Darren Fletcher progressed through the ranks of Manchester United’s Youth Academy and the dynamic area-to-area midfield playmaker has won four Barclays Premier Leagues, one FA Cup, two Football League Cups, the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup while with the Old Trafford club. A much appreciated player, the long serving Manchester United stalwart put pen to paper on a new four-year contract with The Reds in March last year.

Darren Fletcher: “I´m twenty-eight and one of the most senior players in the Manchester United squad. But it’s a role I´m used to with Scotland; you talk to the younger players, give them encouragement. I appreciated that sort of thing when I was young. I had a little word in my ear; nothing much, you don’t want to force too much information; but I really appreciated those words of advice.”
