Manuel Neuer deserves to win the Ballon d’Or, says Zico.

Kolkata, Dec 8 (IANS) Brazilian legend Zico says German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer should be awarded the Ballon d'Or this year as he is the most deserving candidate for the trophy following sterling performances in the 2014 World Cup and also for German football club Bayern Munich.

"I think Neuer should get the award as he was one of the best players in the World Cup and also has been for Bayern Munich so far," Zico, coach of the Indian Super League Franchise FC Goa, told reporters here.

Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo, Argentine Lionel Messi and Neuer are the nominees of FIFA Ballon d'Or award, given to the best player of the year.

"Messi and Ronaldo are both fantastic players but considering the year has had the World Cup, Neuer is my choice."

The award will be presented at the FIFA Ballon d'Or award ceremony in Zurich Jan 12 next year.
