What's the story?
Manchester United starlet Marcus Rashford has inked his name in the record books at Old Trafford. The forward has surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo's goal-scoring record after 100 games when he scored the lone goal against Leicester City.
In case you didn't know...
The Red Devils extended their unbeaten run under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to 10 games after defeating Leicester City 0-1 on Sunday night.
Despite coming back from a well-earned point at Liverpool on Wednesday, the Foxes could not inspire enough confidence to replicate the game. This, coupled with David De Gea's heroics, helped United to secure a crucial three points.
Rashford netted his tenth goal of the season, and the only goal of the game, with a low effort past Leicester shot-stopper Kasper Schmeichel.
The young Englishman has been on an impressive goal-scoring run recently and has earned massive praise from Solskjaer who has compared him to the likes of Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney.
The manager said,
"He is only 21, but the maturity he is showing at times is more than 21 and his work rate. If you look at the stats, I was told that he is younger than Ronaldo and Rooney to reach 150 appearances for Manchester United."
When asked if Rashford could reach the same level as the United legends, he replied,
"Definitely - he can be absolutely top class... The more you score the more chance you have of being confident, running into the same positions."
"The way he works during the week is fantastic because he practices a lot."
The heart of the matter
According to The Sportsman statistics, Rashford's ninth minute goal has helped him surpass a record previously held by former United ace Ronaldo.
The goal against Leicester City marked the 21-year-old's 26th in the league after 100 appearances. Ronaldo, on the other hand, scored 19 Premier League goals in his first 100 appearances for the Manchester outfit.
After 150 appearances in all competitions for United, Rashford still comes out on top with 41 goals while Ronaldo found the net 32 times in the same number of appearances.
What's next?
With the win, United has slid past Arsenal to get to the fifth spot on the Premier League table, two points behind Chelsea in fourth place.
The Red Devils will next face Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.
