Manchester United’s transfer activities this summer have not been as successful as the club would have hoped for, but they will be sure to get some reprieve from Marcos Rojo’s pronouncement that he has completed the switch to Old Trafford, made earlier today.
Rojo reveals his dream to be a Manchester United player has come true
Vidal has been slipping further and further away from their grasp for some time now, and Rojo’s transfer has not been completely smooth either. Sporting Lisbon were adamant that his £30 million buy-out clause had to be met for them to let him go, and it was reported that the player had refused to train in an attempt to push through to an exit.
Rojo had later apologized for his ‘unprofessional behaviour’ and had promised to return to training with his Lisbon team-mates, but it now looks as if his ‘dream’ has come true. "It feels like a dream, to be a Manchester United player," the defender told ARG Radio Continental.
United haven’t yet confirmed this piece of welcome news as yet, but it was being reported yesterday that the Red Devils were negotiating a £20 million fee for the Argentine, with an additional clause of Nani making the move back to Sporting Lisbon, the club from where he had been picked up by Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2007.
Versatility of Rojo can bolster United’s defence
Before the start of the campaign, experienced defenders Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra and captain Nemanja Vidic waved goodbye to the Old Trafford. If Rojo’s move has indeed come through, he will most probably be deployed as a central defender to bolster their relatively inexperienced defence.
The 24-year-old is equally adept at the left wing-back position, at which position he performed very well for Argentina in the World Cup. Therefore, until Luke Shaw regains full fitness, Rojo could be used as a more attacking option down the left. Whatever be the case, it shall be a rare happy dilemma for coach Louis van Gaal.
