Former Bundesliga side SpVgg Unterhaching, who now play in the German 3.Liga, have signed 23-year-old left-back Fabian Götze from VfL Bochum II for the new 2013/14 season.
It is interesting to see that Mario Götze’s older brother is also leaving the Ruhr valley area to sign for a club in Munich after German international Mario had signed with FC Bayern Munich, leaving Borussia Dortmund for Bavaria – the state in which the brothers were born.
Fabian, like his younger brother Mario, joined the Borussia Dortmund youth system in 2001 and played for them until 2009. He was even captain of the Under-17 BVB boys, and also played for the German Under-17 national side before making it into the Borussia Dortmund II team in 2009. But after a year, he left for 1.FSV Mainz 05 II with a hope to make it into the Mainz Bundesliga side.
But after a year in Mainz, in which he needed time to adjust due to injuries, Fabian Götze returned to the Ruhr valley and signed for VfL Bochum II, who play in the Regionalliga West, the fourth division. Now after two years in Bochum, Fabian makes the jump back into the 3.Liga with Unterhaching; and with his younger brother Mario also set to play in Munich, the two can surely help each other get used to live in Munich.
Interestingly at SpVgg Unterhaching, Fabian Götze isn’t the only brother or son of a famous footballer. Dortmund defender Mats Hummels’ younger brother Jonas Hummels is already there, while former German international goalkeeper Andreas Köpke’s son Pascal Köpke has been signed from 1.FC Nuremberg II.
