Mark Lawrenson: Liverpool should get Alexis Sanchez as part of Luis Suarez swap deal

Mark Lawrenson claims Liverpool should agree a swap deal in signing Alexis Sanchez, while allowing Luis Suarez join Barcelona this summer.

The Premier League’s top scorer of the last season has been on the Catalan club’s radar in recent times as he is believed to end his time in England by opting to make a switch to the La Liga.

The Express says Liverpool want £30m from Barcelona and the Chilean international to let Suarez complete his Camp Nou switch in the summer transfer window. Lawrenson, who was the Merseyside club’s former defender, believes it would be great deal for Brendan Rodgers’ side if they get Sanchez as a part of a swap deal.

The Reds legend says the former Ajax striker has damaged Liverpool’s reputation once again and the time is right to let him leave the club.

“Alexis Sanchez plus cash for Luis Suarez? I’d take that all day long. We all know how wonderful a player Suarez is. We know what he did for Liverpool last season,” Lawrenson wrote in his column in the Daily Mirror.

“We also know, however, what Liverpool have done for him. And if you’re John W. Henry right now you’re thinking to yourself: ‘How many times can this guy keep dragging our name through the mud?’

“Not only that, the excuse he has come out with for biting Giorgio Chiellini last week is even more shameful.”

“What saddens me is that if he had put his hands up and said: “I’m so ashamed. I don’t know what comes over me in situations like that, I need help.” I reckon there would be a real outpouring of support for him.”

“All footballers do something silly in their careers. To do the same thing twice is bad enough. Three times shows a pattern of behaviour that you can’t control,” he concluded.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand also echoed the same views on Suarez’s transfer.

Meanwhile, Sanchez has been also been linked with Arsenal and Manchester United in recent times after his impressive spell for his national side during the World Cup. This comes after a brilliant run for Barcelona in the league last season.
