Chelsea midfielder Marko Marin has admitted that wants to stay at Sevilla beyond the expiration of his loan spell, but concedes that the decision upon his future will ultimately rest with Chelsea. Marin is in the middle of a season long loan deal in Spain, and the 24 year old German said that he is open to the possibility of staying with Sevilla rather than returning to Stamford Bridge.
“As things stand now, I am supposed to (go back), but I’ve had so many enquiries,” he said.
“Sevilla want me to stay, but that’s not a decision only they can make. I would like to stay too because I really like it here, but in the end, it’s up to Chelsea what happens.”
However the midfielder insisted that he is not looking too far ahead, preferring instead to concentrate on returning to first team action following a thigh injury and helping Sevilla to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
“What matters now is that I get fully fit again,” he continued.
“When I am fit, then we want to reach for the top. We are within touching distance of Champions League qualification and that is our goal. We’ve got the quality for it.”
Furthermore, Marin also states he is enjoying being compared to Lionel Messi.
“People love me in Spain. I’ve already been likened to [Lionel] Messi, and when I am really fit again then these comparisons will resurface.”
“I just need two or three more weeks. Everything is really perfect here, probably better than in England, even though I did enjoy my time at Chelsea.”
Marin’s situation has echoes of a previous Chelsea loanee, Kevin De Bruyne. De Bruyne spent last season on loan at Werder Bremen before returning to Stamford Bridge, but looks certain to leave the club having failed to break into Jose Mourinho’s midfield.
