Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has made Atletico Madrid defender Martin Demichelis his prime target to shore up his team’s defence before the transfer window ends, according to ESPN.
The manager hopes to end his long search for a central defender with the capture of the Argentina international. Pellegrini has the experience of working with Demichelis when both were at Malaga, and the manager believes that he will be an ideal signing.
Pellegrini was forced to switch his attention to the Demichelis after failing in his efforts to sign Pepe from Real Madrid.
Demichelis previously played for River Plate and Bayern Munich before joining Atletico Madrid on a free transfer, and has a price tag of €5 million on him.
Manchester City is currently suffering a central defender crisis after Vincent Kompany was ruled out for a month with a groin strain. Joleon Lescott will be the only regular specialist central defender available for the trip to Cardiff on Sunday.
