Manchester United lost 1–0 against Turkish Super League outfit Galatasaray at the Turk Telekom Arena in Istanbul in the UEFA Champions League yesterday night. Galatasaray favourite Burak Yilmaz scored the only goal of the match when the centre forward converted a corner from midfield player Selcuk Inan in the 53rd minute of the contest.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United received a hot reception from the boisterous Galatasaray supporters when The Red Devils returned to hell yesterday. And the home crowd became even louder as Turkey international Burak Yilmaz headed a flag kick past the Manchester United shot stopper and into the back of the net eight minutes into the second period. The Old Trafford side almost equalised after sixty minutes of the play but Oliveira Anderson’s dangerous low shot from the edge of the penalty box was saved by Fernando Muslera in the Galatasaray goal. Federico Macheda, Ashley Young and Joshua King were eventually brought on as late replacements but could not change the outcome of the game. The scoreline could have been even worse for the Barclays Premier League club, however, if not for Danish international net custodian Ander Lundegaard who made several splendid saves throughout the encounter.
