Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels has dismissed talks of him leaving the club. The German International insists that the Champions League final against Bayern Munich will not be his last game for Die Borussen. He has been linked with a move to Barcelona, as a long term replacement for Carlos Puyol.

“I’ve not had any contact with Barcelona or any other club,” he said. “I don’t think it’s my duty to dismiss rumours which other people invent.”

“If there was to be any truth in them, I would say so. If I say there is nothing behind the speculation, then people should believe me,” added Hummels.

A product of the Bayern Munich Academy, Hummels was initially signed on loan by BVB in 2008. He quickly cemented his position at the heart of Dortmund’s defence along with Neven Subotic and the deal was made permanent for €4 million in 2009. He has already established himself as the first choice centre-back for both club and country. Hummels,24, is know for his commanding presence at the back and also for his ability to surge forward with the ball at his feet and play accurate attacking passes.

With Gotze confirming his exit and Lewandowski’s future uncertain, this announcement comes as a huge relief for the Dortmund fans.

After limping off injured against Hoffenheim on saturday, there were concerns that he would not be fit for the Champions League final. But the club doctors revealed Hummels had only suffered a sprained ankle and will be able to recover completely for the finale at Wembley.
