Football Leaks seem to be working overtime this week. After revealing Luis Suarez's agreement yesterday, they have now leaked Memphis Depay’s transfer contract as well. The Dutch international moved from PSV to Manchester United in the summer of 2015 for a reported fee of £31 million.
But Football Leaks have revealed that Depay’s contract contains several clauses that require United to pay certain amounts besides the actual transfer fee. The clubs signed the agreement in May last year but the player didn't complete his move to United until the 12th of June.
The contract also states that United did not have to pay the complete amount at the time of signing the player but in installments. The club had to first shell out €17 million within the first 48 hours of signing the agreement.
The next installment of €8.5 million was to be paid by January 31st, 2016. And the final installment of another €8.5 million has to be paid by 1st July this year. Memphis has made 23 appearances in the league so far but hasn’t impressed.
The winger seems to be finding it difficult to adapt to English football and has lost his starting XI berth to Jesse Lingard. The 22-year-old came in with a good reputation after finishing as top scorer with PSV in the Eredivisie last year.
The transfer agreement also states the compensation United will have to pay based on the performance of the club in various competitions. If Manchester United win the Premier League they have to pay an amount of €1.35 million.
If they win the UEFA Champions League the amount to be paid is once again €1.35 million. If United reach the semifinal of the competition then the amount is €325 thousand and €650 thousand if they reach the final.
Since United have been knocked out of the Champions League and with the Premier League title also looking beyond reach the club will not have to pay the compensatory amounts.
Luis Suarez’s contract revealed
Luis Suarez became the first Barcelona player to have his contract leaked by the website after they had revealed the contracts of a series of Real Madrid players previously. According to the leak, Suarez’s actual transfer fee is £64.98 million when it was reported that Barcelona paid £75 million.
The Uruguayan moved to the Catalan club in 2014 from Liverpool but was only allowed to play for the club from October due to his ban as a result of his biting incident in the World Cup. He recently made his comeback for Uruguay against Brazil scoring their equalizer in the second half.
