The decision to replace incumbent coach Tite was made during a meeting of the Sao Paulo club’s directors Thursday, less than 24 hours after a 1-0 away victory over Coritiba, reported Xinhua.

“There is a hierarchy and for now I can’t say anything,” Tite told journalists. “But I am at peace with myself.”

It is understood the 52-year-old has received an offer to coach China’s Shandong Luneng, the current club of former Brazil international striker Vagner Love.

Corinthians have endured a disappointing season after winning the Copa Libertadores-FIFA Club World Cup double last year.

They are currently 10th in the Campeonato Brasileiro standings with just four matches remaining.

Menezes, 51, led Corinthians to the Serie B championship in 2008 and the Copa do Brasil title in 2009 before being appointed Brazil coach in July the following year.

After being dismissed as Selecao boss in November last year, he joined Flamengo in June but quit in September amid poor results.
