Former Barcelona defender Eric Abidal has expressed his firm faith in Lionel Messi and believes that the Argentine will not betray the Catalan side.
After the club was handed out a two-window transfer ban with the start of 2015, troubles brewed even more when the club’s most reputed players were pulled into a shallow of transfer speculations.
Amid the tensions at Camp Nou, Eric Abidal expressed his belief that Messi is destined for better with Barcelona. As quoted by Spanish website Sport, he said, “I know Leo well. He is a well-educated guy, he’s not here to screw the club and others. He has character, he respects people.”
“As he put it, he's at Barca, but doesn't know what tomorrow brings. That's sports. But yes, I believe he will finish his career at Barcelona and I hope he stays,” he continued. "Barca's his home and he has already shown what he can do on the field.”
Messi finished second in this year’s Ballon d’Or, coming second to three-time winner Cristiano Ronaldo. Manuel Neuer finished behind Messi as the Argentine was leading with 0.04 percent of votes..
