Twitter exploded yesterday after a mishap on Ilkay Gundogan’s official twitter account which involved a message saying that he joined the Arsenal team on the pre-season tour and can’t wait to be back in training. Furthermore, he also added an image of Mesut Ozil in civil dress, snapped by a professional photographer along with fellow Arsenal teammates Jack Wilshere and Petr Cech, who were seen wearing the club kits.
In an apparent confusion which has caused a furore in football circles, twitter has used it much to their excitement and trolls. Meanwhile, this indicates bad news for fans who believe that their celebrity heroes actually handle their twitter accounts themselves.

It seems the functioning of Ilkay Gundogan and Mesut Ozil’s twitter account is controlled by the same third-party source, who seemingly made a huge mistake. The tweet was later deleted from Gundogan’s twitter handle @Guendogan8. However, this is not the first time football followers have been left stunned by activity on twitter.
Back in January, a similar third-party source tweeted about the then-trending movie The Revenant. Although he seemed to be lazy in doing so, since he posted more or less the same content on official twitter profiles of Manchester United players Memphis Depay, Juan Mata, Chris Smalling, Ashley Young and Matteo Darmian.

Gundogan to play against compatriot Ozil in the Premier League
Ilkay Gundogan signed for Manchester City in a deal estimated worth £20 million. He is set to play under new manager Pep Guardiola, however, he is unlikely to feature in any games until October as he is left out recovering from a knee injury.
Borussia Dortmund seemingly took a dig at Manchester City on twitter after the deal was complete. They underlined the transfer of an ‘injured player’ who would play for a club that finished ‘fourth’ last season. Manchester City did not respond, and even failed to disclose the completion of move, which prompted Gundogan to request them to “announce” it on their twitter handle.
Mesut Ozil, meanwhile, had joined the Arsenal squad ahead of their last pre-season friendly on their US tour. Arsenal will now play in Norway against Viking FK on 5th August in Stavanger and then travel to Sweden where they’ll play Manchester City on 7th August in their last friendly before the Premier League kicks off.
