UEFA Champions League holder Barcelona suffered their second straight defeat in their US tour; with a lost to Mexican club Chivas Guadalajara 4-1 on Wednesday in a friendly match. Marco Fabian’s double strike in a span of two minutes made the Mexican side beat the Euro Champions, who were untouchable last season.
Playing like the champs, Pep Guardiola’s boys took the lead in the 3rd minute of the game through none other than David Villa. Playing without Lionel Messi, Daniel Alves, Javier Mascherano and Alexis Sanchez, the visitors went into the break with a sole goal lead.
However, after the break, Chivas retaliated strongly and scored three goals in a span of just 12 minutes to put the La Liga Champions chasing the game. The equalizer for Chivas came at the hour mark through Fabian’s 30 yard shot.
Two minutes later, Fabian again scored with a flying scissor kick after Omar Arello’s cross from the right wing found him unmark. The third goal came in the 72 minute through Giovani Casillas before Jose Luis Verduzco rounded of the proceedings with the fourth goal in the 90th minute.
The Sun Life Stadium, home of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins, drew as many as 70,080 fans, highest crowd presence ever recorded. And the crowd was more delighted to see their continents club winning over the World’s best club.
This was Barcelona,s second defeat after going down to continental rival Manchester United 2-1 on Saturday, a reprisal of the Champions League final, when the Spanish club defeated the English club by 3-1.
Barca next play another Mexican club America in Dallas on Saturday.
