According to the latest news reports, Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson is about to offer Manchester United and England player Michael Carrick a new long term contract extension. Carrick, whose current deal at the club expires in the summer of 2014, is regarded by pundits as one the best midfield men in the Barclays Premier League.
Greatly impressed by his play lately, manager Sir Alex Ferguson is set to give the dynamic midfield workhorse a fresh twelve-month contract at Manchester United. A dependable and experienced player, Carrick has been in excellent form so far this season and has become an important part of the Manchester United midfield. The Geordie made his debut for The Red Devils in a 3–1 friendly match win over FC Porto at the Amsterdam Arena in the Amsterdam Tournament back in August 2006 and he has made well over 200 first team appearances for the Old Trafford club.
Sir Alex Ferguson: “I think that Michael Carrick has been magnificent. It’s his best ever season at Manchester United and he’s commanding that position. The player is doing absolutely brilliantly. Even when he came on against West Ham United, he helped ease us through the last twenty minutes. Good players do that. He came on and settled us down.”
