Michael Carrick has warned Manchester United doubters – “You write us off at your peril.”

David Moyes’s team has not got off to a good start this season, and critics are already writing them off as being serious title contenders.

But a defiant Carrick insists United have all four prizes in their sights and is convinced they are capable of rising to the challenge of the two major competitions.

A win in Tuesday’s match at Real Sociedad would virtually secure United’s passage from the group stage to the last 16 in the Champions League.

The England midfielder said: “We’re used to being written off. There’s always been a spell through every season I’ve been here that we’ve been written off at some point.

“The good thing for us is that although we haven’t had a great start there’s a long time to put that right.

“In the grand scheme of things in the league, the points that we’re behind isn’t the end of the world.

“I don’t really think our rivals in the Premier League are stronger this year. It’s pretty much the same. We still believe we’ve got a chance.”
