Former Liverpool and Man United striker Michael Owen believes that Luis Suarez deserves the PFA player of the year trophy, labelling the forward “a freak of nature” and comparing him to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

Suarez looks to be the hot favourite to land the award, having netted 29 goals in 27 appearances this season to fire Liverpool to second place in the Premier League. Suarez also leads the way in terms of assists, having created a staggering 75 chances, of which 11 have been assists.

“It’s certainly Suarez for me, Owen told reporters.

“I think the next in line is probably Yaya Toure if City win the league and he continues his good form then he could give him a run for his money.

“Other names involved: maybe [Adam] Lallana could get a good shout. [Eden] Hazard, maybe.

“But I think Suarez.”

Owen continued by calling the Uruguayan a “freak of nature,” and calling him the best striker to grace the Premier League since Thierry Henry.

“The rulebook has gone now, certainly in the striking department,” he previously told the BBC.

“You see Suarez popping up in any position and it’s just not what’s in the coaching book.

“There’s nothing like Suarez since Thierry Henry; this fella’s a freak of nature.”

Suarez has created a chance every 32 minutes this season.
